Vincent Large trained in furniture making by taking on an apprenticeship at the Edward Barnsley Trust, the renowned scheme near Petersfield in Sussex set up to honour Edwards Barnelsy's contribution to the Arts and Crafts movement in furniture design. After successful completion, Vincent furthered his skills by working for top furniture designer makers such a Matthew Burt's Splinter Group, and received design and business mentoring through Arts Matrix from designer Roy Tam who has previous experience with eco pioneer David Colwell at a Trannon Furniture.
Porposeful, uncluttered, and well made, Vincent's own designs combine his skills in high quality woodwork with that of green wood working and steam bending, achieving the goal of sustainable furniture by 'Low energy making' and ' Long product life cycle'. Vincent took part in major exhibitions including the Wylye Valley Art Trial, New Forest Trust's Fine Woodworking Show, Somerset Arts Weeks, and was invited to participate in the Yew Tree Project at the Salisbury Art Centre alongside famous names such as Guy Martin, Rupert Williamson, Robert Race, Sasha Ward and Matthew Burt.
Vincent's customers include private individuals as well as corporate clients such as the East Somerset NHS Trust who purchased Vincent's seating for the area to improve patient healing. His workshop, which is a stone's throw away from Longleat Forest and Centre Parcs, is small, tidy and essentially equipped to include steam bending facilities and finishing with organic oils. Do contact him and visit.
